
Men's Volleyball Opens the Season on the Road in Tennessee

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team opens the season with a pair of road matches in Tennessee this weekend.
The first match is on Friday, Jan. 7 (5 p.m.) against King University in Bristol, Tenn. The Mastodons will then head to Harrogate, Tenn. to take on Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, Jan. 8 (7 p.m.).
Know Your Foe
In the 2021 season, King posted a 12-13 record and a 7-7 record in the Conference Carolinas. The Tornado's leading return attacker is Joshua Kim. He led the Tornado in total kills (376) and kills per set (4.13). JT Deppe led the Tornado in total assists (772) and assists per set (10.03). As a team, the Tornado averaged 11.8 kills per set, 11.1 assists per set, and 10.5 digs per set. The Mastodons have played King twice prior to Friday's match. They own a 2-0 series lead over the Tornado after defeating them 3-0 on April 10, 2010 and 3-1 on March. 7, 2014, both of which were in Fort Wayne. This is the first time the 'Dons have played King in Bristol, Tenn.
Lincoln Memorial posted a 12-8 overall record, including losses to MIVA foes Loyola Chicago, Lewis, McKendree, Ball State, and Lindenwood. Last season, the Railsplitters' lead attacker was Justin Sharfenaker. He lead the Railsplitters in total kills (226) and kills per set (3.28). As a team, the Railsplitters averaged 12.2 kills per set, 11.4 assists per set, and 9.3 digs per set. Saturday's match is the first time the 'Dons have played Lincoln Memorial in program history
Season Openers
Under head coach Ryan Perrotte, the Mastodons own a 4-2 record in season openers. Of those six matches, the 'Dons are 0-2 on the road in season openers, including a loss to Ball State last season on Feb. 5, and a loss against No. 8 UC Irvine back on Jan. 3 in Irvine, Calif.
Record against Conference Carolinas
The 'Dons own an 11-1 record all time against Conference Carolina schools, including a 3-0 record under coach Perrotte.
Non Conference Record
Since the start of the 2018 season, the 'Dons have posted a 28-11 record against non-conference opponents, which included a 7-2 record against non-conference opponents in 2020. The 'Dons did not play a non conference game in 2021. The last non conference game the 'Dons have played was back on March. 10, 2020 against the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras.
