Purdue Fort Wayne Plates Five Runs in Loss to Troy

TROY, Ala. - An explosive offensive first two innings was not enough for Purdue Fort Wayne softball on Sunday (Feb. 13). The Mastodons tallied five runs, but could not hold Troy at bay, and were bested 16-5.
Sophomore Alyson Quinlan (0-1) got the ball to start for Purdue Fort Wayne (0-5) and took the loss.
At the plate, the Mastodons were paced by senior Emma McMillan, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI. Freshman Brayden Lickey furnished a 1-for-3 effort with an RBI. Junior Taryn Jenkins also contributed for the 'Dons, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mastodons got the scoring started early, putting three runs on the board in the top of the first inning. McMillan's RBI double was the key hit in Purdue Fort Wayne's three-run inning.
The Mastodons lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the second trailing 9-5. Lickey's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Purdue Fort Wayne scored twice, which brought the score to 9-5 in favor of the Trojans. The Mastodons were unable to get any closer, as the Trojans added seven runs to their tally on the way to a 16-5 final line.
