'Dons Fall in Two Games at Chattanooga Challenge

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team dropped a pair of games on the opening day of the Chattanooga Challenge to Indiana State (12-2) and Tennessee Tech (16-2).
GAME 1
Purdue Fort Wayne fell to Indiana State 12-2 after the Sycamores took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Indiana State extended its lead to 12-0 by adding five runs in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth. The Mastodons scored their runs in the fifth inning, when Alyson Quinlan tripled, scoring Thais Uyema. Uyema drew a walk in the plate appearance prior to Quinlan. Alyson Wiesehan brought Quinlan home after flying out to right field.
Jadelyn Johnson took the loss in 2.0 innings of work. Lauren McConnell threw three innings of relief, striking out three.
Indiana State improved to 3-2.
GAME 2
Tennessee Tech put an offensive effort together that looked similar to Indiana State's game against the Mastodons. The Golden Eagles scored six in the first, five in the third and five in the fourth.
In her first outing as a Mastodon, Hannah Richendollar knocked in a two-run homer in the fifth. She brought home Epiphany Hang, who also recorded her first hit of the season with a single.
Emma McMillan was 2-of-3 at the plate with a pair of singles.
Gracie Brinkerhoff took the loss in 3.1 innings. Shaina Eyre tossed 0.2 innings without giving up a run.
The Mastodons fall to 0-7. Tennessee Tech moves to 5-1. The Mastodons will take the field again in Chattanooga against Northwestern State and Radford tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 19) at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
