Georgia State Takes Season Opener From 'Dons

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Purdue Fort Wayne baseball team opened the 2022 campaign on Friday (Feb. 18) with a 13-2 loss at Georgia State. The two clubs will continue their four-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday.
Senior Justin Miller (0-1) got the ball to start for Purdue Fort Wayne (0-1) and took the loss. He allowed six earned runs in 5.0 innings. Miller recorded five strikeouts.
Senior Jack Lang led the way offensively for the Mastodons, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with a solo home run in the sixth.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mastodons were trailing 6-0 in the fifth inning when they loaded the bases. Purdue Fort Wayne got an RBI single from Cade Nelis, scoring junior Ben Higgins from third base. But it would be all the 'Dons would score in the frame.
The Panthers expanded their lead to 7-1 before the Mastodons' offense got back to work, cutting into the lead in the sixth on Lang's leadoff home run which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Panthers. The Mastodons were unable to get any closer, as Georgia State added six runs to their tally on the way to a 13-2 final.
