Men's Volleyball To Play a Pair of MIVA Matches this Week

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team is set to play in a pair of Midwestern Intercollegiate Conference Association matches this week.
The Mastodons travel to Romeoville, Ill. to take on the No. 10 Lewis Flyers on Thursday, Feb. 24 (8 p.m.). Following Thursday's match, the Mastodons return home to face the McKendree Bearcats at the Gates Sports Center on Arnie Ball Court on Saturday, Feb. 26 (6 p.m.).

Lewis enters Thursday's match with an 8-4 overall record (2-2 MIVA) and ranked 10th in the AVCA poll. This past weekend, the Flyers suffered a loss to Lindenwood in five sets in St. Charles, Mo. and defeated Quincy in three sets.
Leading the way for the Flyers is Tyler Mitchem. He leads the Flyers in total kills (149), kills per set (3.63), hitting percentage (.525), and blocks per set (1.34). Kevin Kauling and Tyler Morgan have split time at setter. Kauling leads in assists per set (6.98), while Morgan is averaging 4.73 assists per set. Jason Gibbs leads the Flyers in digs per set (1.86).
McKendree enters the weekend with 6-4 overall record (3-1 MIVA) and received votes in the latest AVCA poll. After starting the season 2-3, the Bearcats won four of their last five matches. Bearcats Head Coach Nickie Sanlin is also the head coach of the Bearcats women's volleyball team.
Leading the way for the Bearcats on offense is Patrick Ross and Ethan Carroll. Ross leads the Bearcats in kills per set (3.21),and hitting percentage at .308 (min. 100 attempts). Carroll leads the Bearcats in total kills (112) and is second in kills per set (3.20). Ryan Serrano, who was last week's MIVA Defensive Player of the Week, leads the Bearcats in assists per set (9.61). Francisco Comas leads the Bearcats in digs per set (2.0).
'Dons In The NCAA
Individually, the 'Dons rank in the top 10 in multiple categories in the NCAA. As of Feb. 23, Jon Diedrich leads the NCAA in total kills (209), is fifth in the country in kills in a five set match (26), and seventh in in kills per set (3.94) . In addition, Sean Califf is tied for 10th in the country in assists per set (9.75).

The 'Dons have won the first set eight times in matches this year. In those eight matches, they boast a 7-1 record.
BBall/VBall Doubleheader
Saturday will be a doubleheader at the Gates Sports Center. The Mastodon women's team will play Milwaukee at 2 p.m.
