Mastodons Travel East For a Pair of Road Matches

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team travel out east to play a pair of road matches this weekend. The Mastodons play Sacred Heart on Friday, Feb. 4 (7 p.m.) in Fairfield Conn. and Harvard on Saturday, Feb. 5 (5 p.m.) in Cambridge, Mass.

The Pioneers are off to a 3-0 start after defeating Daemen College, Lasell, and Fairleigh Dickinson. Patrick Mucherino leads the Pioneers in total kills (38), kills per set (3.45) and hitting percentage (.500). Teddy Payne leads the Pioneers in assists per set (6.73) and Cole Younger leads in digs per set (2.18).
The Crimson have opened the 2022 campaign with a 2-3 record. All three of the Crimson's losses came against ranked opponents on the road (No. 15 UC Irvine, No. 10 UC San Diego, and No. 5 Long Beach State). They've captured wins against Queens and King (Tenn). Campbell Schoenfeld leads the Crimson in total kills (49), kills per set (3.06) and hits .266. Ethan Smith leads the Crimson in hitting percentage at .473 (minimum 50 attempts). James Bardin leads in assists per set (8.75) and Jason Shen leads in digs per set (2.25).
'Dons In The NCAA
Individually, the 'Dons rank in the top 10 in several categories in the NCAA. Jon Diedrich is second in the country in total kills (128) and kills in a five set match (26), third in attempts per set (9.47), fifth in kills per set (4.27), and sixth in points per set (4.87). Additionally, Zach Solomon is fourth in services aces in a four set match (five), and Troy Gooch is tied for fifth in digs in a four set match (15).
