
Mastodons Hit The Road For a Pair of Non-Conference Matches

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team (10-7) is on the road for a pair of non-conference matches this weekend.
The Mastodons will travel to Charleston, W.VA. for a match against Charleston (WV) on Friday, March. 11 (7 p.m.). Following Friday's match, the 'Dons will travel to Wilberforce, Ohio for a match against Central State on Saturday, March. 12 (5 p.m.).

Know Your Foes
Charleston enters Friday's match with a 5-7 overall record and a 2-6 record in the EIVA. The Golden Eagles are coming off defeats to Penn State 3-0 and Saint Francis (PA) 3-1.
Leading the way for the Golden Eagles offense is Lachlan Bray. He leads the Golden Eagles in total kills (92) and kills per set (2.88) while hitting .263. Diego Villafane leads in assists per set (7.69). Nathan Cartier (2.04) and Curtis Raines (2.00) lead in digs per set.
Central State enters the weekend with a 3-10 overall record and a 2-0 record in the SIAC. The Marauders play Benedict College on Friday, March 11 and Edward Waters (Fla.) on Saturday, March 12 (1 p.m.) before taking on the 'Dons.
Yaron Afek and Jayden Rookhuyzen lead the Marauders on offense. Afek leads in total kills (97) and kills per set (2.31), Rookhuyzen is second in total kills (94) and kills per set (2.14). Marcus Franck leads in assists per set (6.62) and Victor Scherer leads in digs per set (3.13). Scherer recorded 10+ digs in five of his seven matches played.

The 'Dons have won the first set 10 times in matches this year. In those matches, they boast a 9-1 record.
Double Trouble
In his first start of his career against St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday, Jan. 22, freshman setter Zach Solomon earned his first career double-double with 37 assists and 12 digs. Less than a week later, he notched his second double-double with 37 assists and 13 digs in a win against Saint Fracnis (PA) on Friday, Jan. 28. The following day, Jon Diedrich earned his first double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs Diedrich would earn a second double-double in their win against Sacred Heart. The Mastodons return home for a pair of matches next week. The 'Dons host a non-conference game against Daemen (N.Y.) on Thursday, March. 17 (7 p.m.). Following Thursday's match, the 'Dons return to MIVA play with a match against No. 11 Loyola Chicago on Saturday, March. 19 (5 p.m.).
