Purdue Fort Wayne Softball Takes Series From IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team picked up a Horizon League series win on Sunday (April 10), as the 'Dons split the series-closing doubleheader with IUPUI.
GAME 1 | IUPUI 3, Purdue Fort Wayne 2
Sophomore Alyson Quinlan (0-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Purdue Fort Wayne.
The Mastodons had three batters find some success at the plate. Sonia Solis and Brayden Lickey both went 2-for-3 with a double. Thais Uyema went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI, as did Alise Moneypenny.
Purdue Fort Wayne got on the scoreboard first in the third thanks to Moneypenny's RBI double, which scored Lickey.
The Mastodons then held the Jaguars scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Purdue Fort Wayne pushed across a run on Uyema's one-out RBI double, which brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Mastodons. The Mastodons were unable to hold the lead, as IUPUI scored three times over the remaining three innings to grab the 3-2 win.

GAME 2 | Purdue Fort Wayne 2, IUPUI 1
Purdue Fort Wayne broke through after a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning to beat the IUPUI Jaguars 2-1.
Senior Shaina Eyre (3-10) started in the circle and picked up the win for Purdue Fort Wayne (6-27, 5-9 Horizon League). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on six hits while striking out six.
The Mastodons were trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Solis came across on a sacrifice fly from Emma McMillan to score the lone run of the inning
The game only remained tied until the next inning, when the Mastodons took to the plate again. Purdue Fort Wayne scored the go-ahead run off an RBI single from Brooke Wintlend, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Mastodons. Eyre struck out one in the bottom of the seventh to hold the comeback.
