Mastodons Out-Hit Raiders But Fall on Saturday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Four Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons recorded multi-hit games, but the 'Dons fell to the Wright State Raiders 17-11 on Saturday (April 2) in Horizon League baseball action.
Trailing 5-0, the Mastodons first put runs on the board in the second inning. Purdue Fort Wayne scored twice, with one run coming across on Isaiah Hart's single.
Wright State put up 10 runs in the third to go up 15-2. Despite the deficit, the Mastodon bats got back to work, cutting into the lead in the third with four runs. The frame was highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Cade Fitzpatrick. His sixth home run of the season.
The 'Dons made it a 15-9 game with three runs in the fifth. Two of them came across on a two-RBI double from Alex Evenson.
The Mastodons sent in a run on senior Garett Lake's leadoff homer in the sixth to make it a 15-10 game.
All told it was eight straight runs for the 'Dons. A big reason for the push came on the mound too. Brian Skelton tossed a career-high 4.0 innings out of the pen. He allowed just two hits and one run with a career-high five strikeouts. He fanned the side in the fourth inning.
The Raiders made it a 17-10 game before Luke Miles tripled in Karter Hann in the ninth to make the final 17-11.
Mitchell Spencer (1-2) started for the 'Dons and took the loss.
Evenson led the hit barrage for the Mastodons, going 3-for-5 in the game with a double and two RBIs. Fitzpatrick also had a double to go with his home run.
