Mastodons Hit Three Home Runs in Twinbill but Fall Twice

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A pair of back-and-forth Horizon League baseball games went to Oakland on Sunday (April 24) at Mastodon Field. The Mastodons fell in game one 8-6 and game two 9-7.
GAME 1 | Oakland 8, Purdue Fort Wayne 6
The 'Dons took a 5-4 lead into the sixth inning but were edged late. Oakland scored three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh of the seven-inning contest.
The Mastodons were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they scored three times. Garett Lake reached on a fielder's choice that saw two runs come around with Alex Evenson sliding around the slide at the plate for the second run.
Oakland rallied to score three runs and take a 4-3 lead before Lake hit a bomb of a two-run home run to right field in the fifth inning. It brought the Mastodons' lead to 5-4.
Oakland scored three times in the sixth on a three-run home run by Jarred Miller. It made the score 7-5. A Jack Lang two-out solo home run in the bottom of the sixth made it a one-run game again.
It was an 8-6 game in the seventh when the Mastodons put the tying runs on base. However, a double play ended the game.
Freshman Braxton Wilson (1-2) took the loss on the mound for Purdue Fort Wayne. He tossed three innings, allowing four runs with three strikeouts.
At the plate, Lake went 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Lang was 2-for-2 with a home run, two walks and an RBI. Cade Fitzpatrick put together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.

GAME 2 | Oakland 9, Purdue Fort Wayne 7
Oakland rallied once again in game two. They scored five times in the ninth to erase a two-run Mastodon lead.
The game featured a nearly one our rain delay in the bottom of the seventh.
Ben Higgins went 2-for-5 with a home run. Lake added to his already stellar day with a 3-of-4 performance while knocking in a run. Luke Miles knocked in three runs.
It was a 4-4 tie in the sixth when the 'Dons went on up an one-out Jack Lang RBI double to score Jarrett Bickel.
Cade Nelis used a ground out to score Lake in the seventh after the game resumed to make the score 6-4. Justin Miller (0-8) gave up just a single in the eighth but ran into trouble in the ninth. Oakland scored five times, with the big hit being a go-ahead two-RBI single by Jarred Miller.
The 'Dons scored one in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate, but could get no closer.
