DAYTON, Ohio - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team dropped a pair of non-league games at Dayton 10-6 and 7-5 on Wednesday (April 27).
GAME 1 | Dayton 10, Purdue Fort Wayne 6
An explosive offensive output was not enough for Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday. The Mastodons tallied six runs, but could not hold the Dayton Flyers at bay, and were bested 10-6.
Shaina Eyre (3-13) started and took the loss in the circle for Purdue Fort Wayne. Alyson Quinlan came out of the bullpen to throw 2.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit. She struck out two without a walk.
Emma McMillan led the way offensively for the Mastodons, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBI. Sonia Solis drew three walks with an RBI. Thais Uyema went 2-for-3 for Purdue Fort Wayne with a walk.
The Mastodons first put runs on the board in the third inning. Purdue Fort Wayne's offense had a good inning, putting three runs on the scoreboard after Dayton had tallied five.
The Flyers expanded their lead to 10-3 before the Mastodons offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. Taryn Jenkins came across to score the lone run of the inning for Purdue Fort Wayne, which tightened the Flyers lead to 10-4.
Purdue Fort Wayne kept the Flyers off the board before narrowing the gap to 10-6 in the sixth. The Mastodons added two to their tally on McMillan's two-run homer to center field. The Mastodons were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

Four Purdue Fort Wayne players collected multiple hits, but the Mastodons fell to the Dayton Flyers 7-5 in game two.
Gracie Brinkerhoff (2-8) took the loss in the circle for Purdue Fort Wayne. Quinlan came out of the bullpen again, going 1.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit.
McMillan led the hit barrage for the Mastodons, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame. Uyema was 2-for-3, while Brooke Wintlend and Jenkins were 2-for-4.
The Mastodons got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Solis' run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Purdue Fort Wayne.
The Mastodons lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the third trailing 3-2. Purdue Fort Wayne scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Epiphany Hang, which brought the score level at 3-3.
Dayton busted up the tie and took a 7-3 lead moving into the seventh. Purdue Fort Wayne closed the gap to 7-5 in the seventh and put the winning run at first, but the game came to an end with a ground out.
