Epiphany Hang Notches Three Hits Against Youngstown State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne softball got three hits out of Epiphany Hang in a 12-4 loss to the Youngstown State Penguins on Friday (April 29) at Warrior Park.
Lauren McConnell (1-7) got the ball to start for Purdue Fort Wayne (7-37, 6-15) and took the loss.
Hang had three hits on the day, which featured a triple and an RBI. Brooke Wintlend went 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Emma McMillan had double and an RBI.
Trailing 1-0, the Mastodons first put runs on the board in the second inning. Wintlend put Purdue Fort Wayne on the board with a leadoff home run off YSU pitcher Elle Buffenbarger.
The game remained tied until the very next inning, when the Mastodons got going again on offense. Purdue Fort Wayne got back-to-back run-scoring doubles from Wintlend and McMillan to pick up a couple of runs, which brought the score to 3-1 in favor of the Mastodons.
Purdue Fort Wayne's lead had disappeared once the fifth inning came around and turned into a 12-3 Youngstown State advantage. The Mastodons cut that deficit to 12-4 in bottom of the fifth with an RBI single off the bat of Hang.
