Katie Clark Shines During Day Two of Horizon League Championships

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Purdue Fort Wayne women's track & field student-athlete Katie Clark broke a program record and finished first in the 400-meter prelims on day two of the 2022 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Clark's time of 24.67 seconds in the 200-meter prelims bested the previous school record of 25.04 seconds set by Olivia Coleman back on April 28, 2018. She finished eighth in the event and qualified for the finals.
Clark also finished first in the women's 400-meter dash prelims (55.34 seconds) and will run in the finals on Sunday.
Dylan Kirkwood (4562 points) and Sophia Buck (4260 points) finished second and fourth in the women's heptathlon. The two combined for 13 team points.
Kirkwood finished second in the long jump (5.32 meters), fifth in the 800-meter dash (2:35.05) and seventh in the javelin throw (25.67 meters). Buck finished third in the 800-meter dash (2:27.63) and fourth in the javelin throw (28.04 meters) and long jump (5.11 meters).
After day two of the league meet, the women's team sits in fifth place with 25 points. Youngstown State is in first with 125 points.
Point scorers for the Mastodons included Brooke Neal, who finished fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:31.09). She scored four team points in the event.
Jordan Yanders (14.11 seconds) and Jesseca Hudson-Turpin (14.29 seconds) finished first and third in the 100-meter hurdle prelims. Buck (1:04.83) and Hudson-Turpin (1:06.69) finished sixth and seventh in the 400-meter hurdles. They all qualified for Sunday's finals.
The Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships conclude on Sunday. Events start at 10 a.m. with the women's hammer throw.
