'Dons Head to Liberty and Host Mastodon Invite on Saturday

FORT WAYNE Ind. - The Mastodon men's and women's track and field teams will be in action in multiple locations this week. Some Mastodons will be in Virginia for a meet hosted by Liberty. The rest of the squad will compete in the Mastodon Invite on Saturday (Jan. 21) on ESPN+.

Female Athletes Entered: Sophia Buck (pentathlon), Dylan Kirkwood (pentathlon, 4x400), Katie Clark (200m, 400m, 4x400), Makaila Groves (800m), Jesseca Hudson-Turpin (200m, 60m hurdles, 4x400), Jai Reed (60m, 200m).
1st Place Finish
The women's track and field team brought home a first place finish on Saturday (Jan. 14) at the Sean Brady Alumni Invite. The Mastodons had three of the top four spots in the mile. Riley Tate won with a time of 5:19.18, less than half a second ahead of the second-place finisher. Bella Hodges was third (5:22.94) and Ava Genovese took fourth (5:24.70). Jesseca Hudson-Turpin had a pair of wins on Saturday. She earned the top spot in the 60m hurdles, stopping the clock in 8.64. She also won the 400 meters (1:00.77).
2nd Place Finish
The men's track and field team brought home a second place finish on Saturday (Jan. 14) at the Sean Brady Alumni Invite. The men's team especially dominated the mile event, occupying six of the top seven spots. Andrew Whitinger won the event with a time of 4:20.91, just beating out teammate Harrison Niswander (4:20.92). Nathan Mills followed (4:24.68) with JT Hodges (4:24.90), Nicholas Mills (4:25.45) and Austin Hall (4:27.58).
Looking Forward
The Purdue Fort Wayne men's and women's track and field teams will head across state lines to take part in the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic on Friday, February 3rd.
