Busy Day For Women’s Track & Field Features 4x400 School Record

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field team was in action in a pair of locations on Saturday (Jan. 21). The Mastodons were hosting the Mastodon Invitational in Fort Wayne as well as sending a few student-athletes to Virginia for Liberty's Brant Tolsma Invitational.
In Virginia, the Mastodons set a new school record in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:53.13 to take fourth place. The squad of Sophia Buck, Jesseca Hudson-Turpin, Dylan Kirkwood and Katie Clark combined for the record. Hudson-Turpin finished fourth in the 60 hurdles, stopping the clock in 8.75 in the finals. Makaila Groves finished the 800 meters in eighth with a time of 2:19.74
In Fort Wayne, the Mastodon earned top three performances all across the final results sheet.
Jordan Yanders earned first in the 60 hurdles (8.98) and took second in the 60 meter dash (7.83). Brooke Neal was the top collegiate finisher in the mile. She took second overall with a time of 5:04.00. Riley Tate finished second in the 3000m with a time of 10:30.10. Ava Genovese was fourth (10:32.13). Brayden Langdon earned third in the 800 meters (2:25.10) with teammate Kathy Potter in fifth (2:27.35).
Tate, Lydia Carrell, Genovese and Neal returned to the track later in the meet to win the DMR, earning a time of 12:34.36.
In the field events, Miranda Haney picked up a victory in the high jump (1.68 meters). Mariah Oberhaus took third in the triple jump (10.13 meters). The 'Dons put together a nice performance in the shot put. Abbigail Garwood took first (12.97 meters) with Ali Sparks in second (12.74 meters) and McKayla Henry in fourth (12.43 meters). The 'Dons owned four of the top five spots in the weight throw. Ali Sparks won the event with a personal best of 16.16 meters coming on her last attempt. Lia Rivers was second (15.89m) and Nakia Harris-Campbell took third (15.29 meters). Megan Sinnott was in fifth place (14.54 meters).
The 'Dons are back in action on Feb. 3 at Bellarmine's PNC Bank Classic.
