Mastodon Men’s Soccer Gears Up for Final Road Trip

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Mastodon men's soccer team (6-4-3, 3-3-2 Horizon League) embarks on their final road trip of the regular season this weekend as they'll travel to face Northern Kentucky on Saturday (Oct. 28) at 1 PM.

Northern Kentucky 3-9-3 so far with a 2-5 record in Horizon League matches. The Norse had lost five straight matches before a 3-2 win over Milwaukee last Saturday. Sam Robinson has a team-best five goals.

Purdue Fort Wayne is 4-19-4 all-time against Northern Kentucky. The last Mastodon win in this series came in 2018 with Purdue Fort Wayne winning 3-0. The series dates back to 1986 when both clubs were in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Soshi Fujioka delivered the corner kick that led to Mahlmeister's goal, giving him a league-best eight assists this season. It's the fourth-most in Purdue Fort Wayne's DI era, the most in the Horizon League, and the 13th most nationally this season.
Lots of Shots
Purdue Fort Wayne ranks 23th in the nation with 6.23 shots on goal per match. Seth Mahlmeister leads the Horizon League with an average of 2.15 shots on goal per match, the 4th highest average in the nation. Mahlmeister also has the 15th highest total shot average in the nation with 3.69 per match.
Balanced Attack
The Mastodons have seen 12 different players score a goal this season. Seth Mahlmeister leads the team with nine goals and Abe Arellano has two. It's the most goal scorers since 12 different Mastodons scored a goal in 2005.
Special Season
With a win in either of their next two Horizon League matches, Purdue Fort Wayne will win their fourth conference game of the season. The Mastodons have never won more than three league matches since they made the move to Division I in 2001.
