Looking Back
Two school records fell in the first meet of the season on Saturday. Ezra Lewellen secured victory in the 60 meters with a time of 6.74, breaking a school record, while Jonas Morris claimed the 300 meters title with a time of 34.85, also surpassing a previous record. Additionally, Zyler Johnson led in the weight throw (15.77 meters), Brevin Miller secured the shot put title (14.53 meters), and the 4x400 relay team consisting of Tyler Hershberger, Jaylin Springer, Dona Fagnon, and Brent Donaldson emerged victorious with a time of 3:34.90. In other events, Seth Mills (2:02.73) took the top spot in the 800 meters, with Jack Mills (2:03.91) and Colten Gasson (2:05.32) following suit.
On the women's side, Nakia Harris-Campbell won the weight throw, covering a distance of 16.70 meters, leading the 'Dons to dominate the top spots with Ali Sparks in third (15.77 meters), Lia Rivers in fourth (14.91 meters), and Rosiebella Fiabema in fifth (14.73 meters). Rivers also clinched the shot put title with a throw of 13.46 meters. Kelsey Shatava claimed the high jump title, reaching a height of 1.51 meters. In the long jump, Louiza Kruiswijk took first place (5.61 meters), followed by Mariah Oberhaus (4.67 meters) and Martia Williams (4.55 meters) in second and third, respectively. Jesseca Hudson-Turpin won the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.72 meters, and Sophia Buck secured second place with a time of 9.28 meters. The 4x400 relay team, consisting of Madeline McClerren, Aniya Young, Kassie Jordan, and Jesseca Hudson-Turpin, clinched victory with a time of 4:05.78. Kassie Jordan also earned a win in the 300 meters earlier in the day (41.64), with Korynne Moga finishing in second place (41.72). Jai Reed won the 60 meters (7.65)
Best in League
After his first ever meet as a Mastodon, Ezra Lewellen was named the Horizon League Men's Track & Field Runner of the Week. The Royal Center, Indiana native ran a time of 6.74 in the 60 meter dash to win the event at the Mastodon Opener and set a new school record. The 60m meter time of 6.74 ranks first in the Horizon League and fourth in the NCAA.
Eyes on the Prize
The indoor season will culminate at the Horizon League Indoor Championships on February 24-25 in Youngstown, Ohio.
