INDIANAPOLIS - Alanah Jones was lethal from the circle on Friday (April 7), leading Purdue Fort Wayne softball to a 3-1 win over IUPUI in the first game of the three-game series.

Jones threw 12 strikeouts in the pitcher's duel, besting IUPUI's Madison Bryant's 11. Jones is the first Mastodon to record multiple 12-strikeout performances in a season since Miranda Kramer and Megan Flenniken did in 2014. She is the first freshman to do so in the Mastodons' Division I history.

Jones picks up her team-best sixth win of the season in her 11th complete game. She is averaging more than a strikeout per inning in her 100 innings pitched, up to 105 for the season. Bryant falls to 3-7.

The Mastodons opened the scoring in the second inning when Epiphany Hang got a triple then scored on a passed ball. IUPUI answered in the bottom of the frame with a pair of hits, a double and a single.

Jones and Bryant traded strikeouts until the sixth inning when the 'Dons struck again. Taryn Jenkins doubled and advanced to third on an error from the leadoff spot, then Taylor Warne joined her on the bases with a bunt. Grace Hollopeter put the IUPUI defense in a tough spot with the squeeze bunt to bring Jenkins home.

The 'Dons put an insurance run on the board in the seventh when Brayden Lickey snuck home after a wild pitch.

Warne had a 2-for-3 performance from the plate. She now has a .550 batting average in league play.

Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 12-18 (3-3 Horizon League) while IUPUI falls to 9-19 (5-3 Horizon). These two teams will meet again tomorrow (April 8) for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
