FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Cade Nelis had a pair of hits in Purdue Fort Wayne's 11-5 loss to Oakland on Friday (May 12) at Mastodon Field in Horizon League play.

The 'Dons scored two in the second inning on a bases loaded two-RBI single by Brooks Sailors. His hit tied the game at two. Oakland was up 5-2 in the third when the 'Dons put two more on the board to make it a one-run game. Cade Nelis knocked in Sailors in the inning. Caileb Johnson had a double and scored in the inning.

A key hit in the game came in the top of the sixth inning. Oakland led 5-4 when Lucas Loos came to the plate with two outs and runners on second and third. Loos singled through the left side to score a pair and make it a 7-4 game.

Nelis finished with a double, single, a walk and an RBI in the game. Ben Higgins and Johnson each had a double in the game to bring the Mastodon season total to 102. The 'Dons broke the school record for single-season doubles on Thursday when they hit 100.

Ian Clearly had four hits and drove in four for Oakland. The 'Dons chased Oakland starter Sean Fekete in the fourth. He ended up with a no-decision. Brandon Decker is now 6-2 after getting the win in relief for the Golden Grizzlies. Brody Fine is now 1-6 after suffering the loss.

The 'Dons fall to 10-40 (6-20 Horizon League). The Golden Grizzlies improve to 24-27 (15-11 Horizon League). The series continues Saturday at Mastodon Field in a 2 p.m. first pitch. It will be Senior Day for the 'Dons.
