
Aniya Young Shines at SVSU Classic

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mi. – Aniya Young took home titles in two events on Friday (Jan. 12) for Purdue Fort Wayne at the SVSU Classic.
Young won both the 60 meter (7.82) and the 200 meter (25.51) events on Friday with 'Dons also taking second in both races. Jordan Yanders took second in the 60 meters with a time of 8.92 and Jesseca Hudson-Turpin took second in the 200 meters with a time of 25.97.
In the 300 meters, Kassie Jordan ran a time of 41.36 for a third-place finish. Marissa Van De Weg took second in the 600 meters with her time of 1:43.4.
The distance squad posted five podium finishes on Friday. Madison King won the mile with a time of 4:58.65 with Riley Tate (5:01.76) in second and Ava Genovese (5:14.12) in third. Tate won the 3000 meter with her time of 10:08.25 while Genovese took third at 10:32.01.
Louiza Kruiswijk finished third in the long jump with her best jump measuring 5.44m. Ali Sparks finished second in both the shot put (12.97m) and the weight throw (15.82m). Lia Rivers finished third in the weight throw with her best throw measuring 15.28m.
Hudson-Turpin, Madeline McClerren, Kassie Jordan, and Korynne Moga ran a time of 3:59.27 to win the 4x400 relay.
The Mastodons return home to host the Mastodon Invite at Lutheran Health Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 20.
