Kruiswijk Sets Triple Jump Record And Yanders Wins Twice in Home Meet

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Louiza Kruiswijk set a school record in the triple jump and Jordan Yanders won two events on Saturday (Jan. 20) for Purdue Fort Wayne at the Mastodon Invite.
Yanders won the 60 meter hurdles (8.82) and the 200 meters (26.17). The 60 meter hurdles was a Mastodon sweep with Jesseca Hudson-Turpin coming in second at 8.95 and Dylan Kirkwood taking third at 9.09.
Kirkwood also took second in the long jump with a best jump of 5.34m. Jai Reed was the only jumper to top that mark as she took home the title with a jump of 5.39m for the 'Dons. Reed additionally finished second in the 60m with a time of 7.86m. Ellie Zagel took third in the long jump at 5.25m.
Kruiswijk won with a jump event with the best triple jump of the day that measured 11.83m for a new school record. Kelsey Shatava and Melia Marlin each managed to clear the high jump bar at 1.50m, but Shatava took third since she cleared the bar on her first try.
Purdue Fort Wayne took seven spots in the top ten of the weight throw. Nakia Harris-Campbell (15.91m) won the event, Ali Sparks (15.69m) took second, and Lia Rivers (13.57m) came in third. Rivers also took second in the shot put with a best mark of 13.57m and Sparks was third at 13.16m.
The 'Dons also had three of the top four finishers in the 3000 meters. Madison King finished second with her time of 9:38.02, Riley Tate took third at 10:06.84, and Ava Genovese was fourth crossing the line at 10:17.94. This distance trio worked with Marissa Van De Weg to win the DMR in 12:25.85.
Purdue Fort Wayne will compete at the Doug Raymond Invitational, hosted by Kent State, next weekend (Jan. 26-27).
