Genovese and Tate selected to Valeo Academic All-League Team

INDIANAPOLIS - A pair of Purdue Fort Wayne women's cross country student-athletes were honored by the Horizon League on Thursday (Nov. 21). Both Riley Tate and Ava Genovese were named to the Horizon League's Valeo All-Academic Team.
Tate (Columbus, Ohio / Worthington Kilbourne HS) was a 2023 Horizon League All-Academic Honorable Mention pick. The junior is a two-time Horizon League Academic Honor Roll student and was named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Track & Field/Cross Country Team. Tate earned a spot on the First Team All-Horizon League after a sixth place finish (21:36.9) in the 2024 Horizon League Championships (Nov. 2) and led the Mastodons to third place in the event. She won the 2024 Mastodon Alumni Open (Sept. 20), holds third place in program history for her 5K time (17:34.3) at the Joe Piane Invitational (Oct. 4) and sits at fourth in program history for her 6K time (20:58.3) at the NCAA Division I Great Lakes Region Cross Country Championships (Nov. 15). Tate owns a 3.93 GPA in the computer sciences program.
Genovese (Coloma, Mich. / Coloma HS) is a two-time Horizon League Academic Honor Roll student and was named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Track & Field/Cross Country Team. The junior earned a spot on the Second Team All-Horizon League after a ninth place finish (22:01.2) in the 2024 Horizon League Championships (Nov. 2) and aided the Mastodons to third place in the event. She currently holds seventh place in program's history for a 6K (21:18.6), which she set at the NCAA Division I Great Lakes Region Cross Country Championships (Nov. 15), and sits at eighth in the program history's 5K marks after her time of 17:56.9 at the at the Joe Piane Invitational (Oct. 4). Genovese, a biology major, holds a 3.91 GPA.
To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
