FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne track and field team announced their 2024-25 indoor schedule. The Mastodons will be home for three meets during the indoor season on Dec. 7 and Jan. 17-18, as well as hosting the Horizon League Championship on March 1-2.
The 'Dons begin the season at home, hosting the Mastodon Opener on Dec. 7. Purdue Fort Wayne won 13 total events and broke two school records, Ezra Lewellen in the 60 meters and Jonas Morris in the 300 meters, in last year's Mastodon Opener. The 'Dons will take a month off before hosting the next meet of the year, the Mastodon Invitational and Multi (Jan. 17-18). The team broke two school records last season in the Mastodon Invite to go along with winning 10 events. Harrison Niswander set the 3000 meters school record and beat all competitors across the finish line.
Purdue Fort Wayne takes to the road for the next four weeks, starting in late January when they travel to Liberty for the Brant Tolsma Invitational on Jan. 24-25. The 'Dons will be at Notre Dame the following weekend for their third consecutive year competing in the Meyo Invitational (Jan. 31-Feb. 1). Lewellen won the 60 meters in the meet last year, and Niswander set a school record with his mile time.
The Mastodons will spend the first week in February at the fair, but this trip is strictly business. The Indianapolis Fairgrounds will host the Fairgrounds Invitational on Feb. 8. Purdue Fort Wayne finds themselves at Grand Valley State's Big Meet (Feb. 14) for the fourth year in a row. The 'Dons set five school records at last year's meet, highlighted by Niswander breaking both the 5000 meters and 800 meters marks.
Purdue Fort Wayne will complete the indoor season by hosting the Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 1-2. The women's team earned third in the meet with 126 points, winning four events and setting six school records. Ali Sparks was the first Mastodon ever named the meet's most outstanding performer for field events after winning the shot put with a school record throw. Jai Reed set both the 200 meter and 60 meter school record. The men's team placed fourth in the meet with 63 points after setting three school records and winning two events. Lewellen took home the 60 meters and set the Purdue Fort Wayne record in the 200 meters.
