Sparks and Carrico Shine at GVSU Extra Weekend Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field program completed the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet on Saturday (April 25).
Ali Sparks recorded the Horizon League's second-best hammer throw mark of the season, 53.47 meters, only behind her own previous throw. Francesca Carlo threw 46.82 meters in the event during day one (April 24). The distance would be seventh in the league, but a previous throw already sits in fifth.
Emery Carrico threw a personal record 39.59 meter javelin throw mark, good for second in the HL. Emilia Russell also threw a pr in the event, reaching 35.28 meters and eighth in the Horizon League standings.
Carrico returned to action to throw a 13.59 meter shot put mark, the fourth furthest in the league this season. Sparks (13.33m) and Ellie Zagel (12.98m) also had throws in the event that would list on the HL's top-ten.
Ava Genovese ran a personal record 16:55.13 5000 meters that stands as the fourth fastest in the Horizon League. Riley Tate finished just behind her with a 17:03.79 time. The senior's finish would be sixth in the league standings, but she already owns fifth.
Haylee Hile ran the HL's fourth-quickest 3000 meter steeplechase time, finishing in a personal record 10:45.02.
McKayla Henry threw a 41.48 meter discus throw mark, which would have been good for fourth in the Horizon League, but she already owns third. Makenna Dommer threw the league's seventh-furthest toss in the event, reaching 39.76 meters.
The 'Dons will travel to Oakland to take on the Horizon League Outdoor Championships (May 8-10).
