Mastodons Dominate Presbyterian 10-0

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team left Georgia on a positive note on Sunday (Feb. 25), beating Presbyterian 10-0.
The Mastodons won wire-to-wire, scoring the game-winning run on the first out of the game. After Bailey Manos singled on her trip to the plate, she stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Grace Hollopeter grounded out, but Manos was able to score. Epiphany Hang brought home Tori Countryman an at bat later on a sacrifice fly to center field. Brooke Lickey was walked and stole second to get in scoring position. McKenna Minton singled to bring Lickey home and give the 'Dons an early 3-0 advantage.
Manos reached on an error in the fourth and Hollopeter hit a double to tally another RBI.
The 'Dons had another three-run inning in the fifth. After Lickey walked again, Minton recorded the first triple of her career and first of the Mastodons' season. Brayden Lickey singled to score another. Kennedy Peckinpaugh reached on an error and advanced around to home through the next three at bats, finally batted in by Countryman.
The Mastodons scored the runs that ended the game early in the sixth and some to spare. Brayden Lickey singled to score Hang, Brooke Lickey scored on a wild pitch, and Minton scored on a sac fly from Peckinpaugh.
In the bottom of the sixth, Alyson Quinlan took over the pitching duties and struck out two of the three batters she faced.
Kayla Roberts got her first collegiate win in 3.0 innings of relief and two strikeouts. Kasey Wolfe took the loss, only making it through one inning.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 4-10 and Presbyterian falls to 5-9. The Mastodons will head south again next week, this time to Richmond, Kentucky to play in Eastern Kentucky's EKU Colonel Classic on March 1-3.
