BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the third straight season, the Mastodon baseball program has a win over a Big Ten opponent. The 'Dons went on the road on Tuesday (Feb. 27) and defeated No. 20 Indiana 9-6. The 'Dons hit five home runs in the game.

The win is the Mastodons' first over a ranked opponent in program history.

The game was scoreless through the first three innings, but back-to-back solo home runs from Justin Osterhouse and Ben Higgins put Purdue Fort Wayne out in front. Jacob Walker added a third run in the inning bringing home Nate Simpson.

Higgins notched his second RBI of the day with a single in the next inning. The Mastodons scored four runs on two homers in the sixth inning. Camden Karczewski hit a solo shot before Osterhouse hit his second long ball of the game, driving in three runs and giving the 'Dons an 8-0 lead.

The Hoosiers scored three runs in the sixth, and three more in the eighth inning on a home run from Carter Mathison. But with the count full and bases loaded, Owen Willard came through with a clutch strikeout to preserve the Purdue Fort Wayne lead.

Higgins hit his second home run of the game in the top of the ninth to add a Mastodon insurance run before Willard pitched a clean bottom half of the inning to seal the win.

Sean Kasper got the win in his first collegiate start on Tuesday and threw 3.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts and just two hits allowed. Willard picked up his first save of the year striking out two through 1.1 hitless innings.

As a team the 'Dons recorded 12 hits. Higgins was 3-of-5 with two home runs, three runs knocked in and two runs scored. Osterhouse also had a single to go with his two home run day.

Indiana, fresh off a series sweep at Baylor over the weekend, falls to 6-2. The 'Dons are 2-6. Purdue Fort Wayne is at Evansville this weekend.
