EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Ben Higgins homered for the second time in as many games as Purdue Fort Wayne dropped Friday (March 1) night's game with Evansville 18-5.

Higgins went 2-for-4 with his home run and two runs knocked in. Jacob Walker and Grant Thoroman also collected two hits. Thoroman tripled to bring home Camden Karczewski to start a big third inning for the Mastodons. Nick Sutherlin doubled to score Thoroman and was followed by Higgins' home run. This followed an RBI groundout from Grant Sawa in the second inning that brought Higgins home to give the 'Dons a 5-2 lead.

After scoring two in the first inning, Evansville found themselves trailing after the Mastodons' offensive explosion in the fourth. The Purple Aces responded with four runs in the third, three in the fourth, and four in the fifth to open a 13-5 lead after six. Simon Scherry finished with six RBI for the home squad.

Ethan Bell (2-0) got the win for Evansville tossing 3.2 innings with one hit and six strikeouts. Mac Ayres took the loss for Purdue Fort Wayne allowing nine runs on nine hits and striking out four.

The 'Dons are scheduled for three more games against Evansville this weekend starting with a doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 2). First pitch in game one is set for 2 p.m. ET.
