Walker and Higgins Shine in Game One Victory at Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. --Senior Ben Higgins and senior Jacob Walker each collected three RBIs to help lead the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons past the Evansville Purple Aces 11-3 in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday (March 2). The 'Dons fell in game two 16-3
Game One | Purdue Fort Wayne 11, Evansville 3
Senior Carter Sabol (1-2) started on the mound and picked up the win for Purdue Fort Wayne. The right-hander went 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits, allowing three walks and striking out three. Kevin Fee also made an impact on the mound for the Mastodons, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.
Walker went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple, a home run and a walk in addition to his three RBIs and Higgins put together a 2-for-3 game with a double and a walk. Nick Sutherlin went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs knocked in.
Purdue Fort Wayne scored twice in the first inning, with one run coming across on freshman Justin Osterhouse's single.
The Purple Aces rallied to score three runs and take a 3-2 lead before the Mastodons got back on the board in the fifth. The Mastodon offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of Walker and a two-run double from Sutherlin, which brought the score to 7-3 in favor of the Mastodons.
Purdue Fort Wayne kept Evansville without a run before building their lead to 11-3 in the seventh inning. The Mastodons bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Higgins. The score remained 11-3 for the rest of the game, as Purdue Fort Wayne coasted to the win.

Evansville scored three in the second and three in the third to take a 6-0 lead before opening up the game later.
Grant Thoroman, Colton Shirley and Nate Simpson each had two hits for the 'Dons. Luke Miles drove in two in a pinch-hit appearance. In the seventh inning.
Harrison Taubert had four hits for the Purple Aces. Kenton Deverman is 2-0 after getting the win for Evansville. Josh Kuhns is now 0-2
The two teams will close the four-games series on Sunday.
The 'Dons are now 3-8. Evansville is 6-5.
