Mastodon Men's Volleyball Tops Quincy, Clinch No. 5 Seed on Senior Day

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The No. 20 Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team beat Quincy 3-0 on Saturday night (April 6) to send the seniors off with a victory and clinch the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association tournament.
Prior to the match, the Mastodons celebrated Davey Singer, Carlos Mercado, Wilmer Hernandez, Bryce Walker and Jon Diedrich for their Senior Day.
The 'Dons used a 6-1 run to go up 9-5 in set one capped off by an ace from Casey Lyons. The Mastodons never trailed from there and got three kills in the final five points to win the frame. Mark Frazier had six of his match-high 16 kills in the opening frame, helping the 'Dons hit .417 as a team.
Purdue Fort Wayne jumped out to a 7-1 lead in set two and never looked back. Diedrich had two aces in the run to start the set. Frazier added six more kills on just seven attempts in set two.
The 'Dons went up 17-11 in set three before Quincy cut it to three with a 4-1 run. Eventually, Walker and Frazier combined for a block and Diedrich got a kill to finish up the match in just 90 minutes.
The Mastodons hit .328 as a team and had 12.5 blocks to hold Quincy to .182.
Purdue Fort Wayne improved to 14-11, 8-8 MIVA. Quincy falls to 5-19, 1-15. The Mastodons will head to Lindenwood on Saturday (April 13) for the quarterfinal of the MIVA Tournament.
