FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne baseball team finished with a series win over first place Northern Kentucky, but fell on Sunday (April 7) in the series finale to the Norse 12-2 (8 innings).
Grant Thoroman went 2-for-3 in the game. He had a two-out solo home run in the first inning to put the 'Dons up 1-0.
Purdue Fort Wayne scored once in the third to take a 2-0 lead on an RBI single off the bat of junior Nick Sutherlin. Northern Kentucky took the lead for good with a five-run fourth inning.
Northern Kentucky's Liam McFadden-Ackman went 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBI's. John Odom had three hits including a home run. Jake Johnson threw four scoreless innings in relief to get the win. He is 1-1. Brody Fine started for the 'Dons and is now 0-4.
Sutherlin had two hits in the game.
Northern Kentucky improves to 20-11 (10-2 Horizon League). The 'Dons fall to 12-19 (6-6 Horizon League). The 'Dons are at Bowling Green on Wednesday in non-league action.
