Bluejays Sneak Past 'Dons in Eight-Inning Softball Contest

CONWAY, S.C. -The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team forced Creighton to an extra inning on Sunday (Feb. 9), but the Bluejays beat the Mastodons 4-3 in the eighth.
Trailing 3-2 in the seventh, Purdue Fort Wayne got a game-tying run when Grace Hollopeter doubled to right field to score Tori Countryman. In the eighth, Aglaia Rudd was placed on second, then Kennedy Peckinpaugh singled up the middle and Rudd scored.
In Creighton's turn in the eighth, the Mastodons got back-to-back outs, but Sydney Potter hit a home run to walk it off.
Earlier in the contest, Alexa Carter recorded the first hit and RBI of her career, notching a double and bringing Brooke Lickey over the plate in the second inning.
Brooklyn Patchen got the win for the Bluejays with 1.2 innings of relief. Alanah Jones threw all 7.2 innings and recorded four strikeouts, but suffered the loss for the Mastodons.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 1-4 while Creighton improves to 3-2. The 'Dons will be back in action next weekend at the Skyhawk Classic in Martin, Tennessee.
