Mastodon Softball Drops a Pair

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Purdue Fort Wayne softball dropped a pair of non-league games to Central Arkansas and Purdue on Saturday (March 1).
GAME 1: Central Arkansas 8, Purdue Fort Wayne 0
Central Arkansas took game one of the Coach B Classic 8-0, scoring at least one run in each inning.
The Sugar Bears scored one in each of the first two games, then three in the third, coasting from there.
Tori Countryman had both hits for the 'Dons. She had a single in the second and fifth innings.
Alanah Jones and Gracie Brinkerhoff split the pitching duties, both seeing 13 batters. Jones took the loss. Julia Petty got the win for UCA.
Central Arkansas improved to 6-10.
GAME 1: Purdue 11, Purdue Fort Wayne 1
Purdue used 14 hits to win the first of a two-game weekend against the Mastodons 11-1.
The Boilermakers had a home run and two doubles in the second inning to get scoring started, then a single, double and homer in the third to take a firm hold of the contest.
The Mastodons finished with two hits, a single from Countryman and a solo home run from Bailey Manos in the fifth inning.
Aubrey Zachary threw 3.0 innings and suffered the loss. Mackenzie Arroyo threw 1.2 innings of relief and gave up two earned runs. Julia Gossett got the win for the Boilermakers in a complete game with 10 strikeouts.
Purdue Fort Wayne fell to 2-8 while Purdue West Lafayette improved to 11-6. These two teams will meet again on Sunday morning (March 2) at noon ET.
