Ali Sparks Breaks Hammer Throw Record at Polar Bear Invite

MARION, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field program completed the first outdoor meet of the season, the Polar Bear Invite hosted by Indiana Wesleyan, on Saturday (March 22). Ali Sparks highlighted the event by breaking the school record in hammer throw.
In the last event of the meet, Sparks threw a school-record mark of 54.47 meters in the hammer throw to earn second. McKayla Henry threw a personal record 41.56 meters in the event to place 18th. Three Mastodons threw their first collegiate hammer throw at the meet: Hayma Ong (39.34 meters), Emery Carrico (36.35 meters) and Makenna Dommer (32.94 meters).
Ellie Zagel won the 200 meter dash, completing the event in a personal record time of 26.35.
Ella Jenkins took third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.34.
Jenkins also ran in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing in 15.48 for fourth. Jaliyah Page completed her first collegiate 100 meter hurdles, earning third with a time of 15.10.
Haylee Hile ran a personal record time (4:54.73) in the 1500 meters to place fifth. Faith Norris ran a 5:05.59 in the event to run her first collegiate 1500 meters.
Makenna Dommer took 10th in her career debut in the discus throw with 38.26 meters. McKayla Henry set a personal record in the event, throwing 37.91 meters to finish 11th.
The Mastodons will split up to take on the WashU Distance Carnival (March 27-28) and the Indiana State Pacesetter Sports Invitational (March 29).
