Shirley's two-run home run in the ninth made it an 8-6 score in favor of Tennessee Tech. The 'Dons proceeded to put the tying runs on base, but stranded them there to end the contest.
Brooks Sailors, Drew Helton and Justin Osterhouse each had two hits in the game. Sailors and Osterhouse both knocked in a run in the third to give the Mastodons a 2-0 lead. With runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh, the Golden Eagles took a 7-2 lead. Helton doubled in Osterhouse and Sailors in the eighth to make it a 7-4 game.
Purdue Fort Wayne out-hit Tennessee Tech 12-7.
Rex Stills started and threw three scoreless innings. Aidan Peterson allowed three runs in 2.0 innings and got the loss. He is 0-1. Jaxon Pridgen is 1-0, getting the win in relief. Logan Moller picked up the save.
Tennessee Tech moves to 13-4 with the win. The 'Dons fall to 1-13. Purdue Fort Wayne is at Ball State on Tuesday (March 11).
