GAME 1: Purdue Fort Wayne 12, Indiana State 3
Manos had the best offensive game of her career on Sunday, finishing the game with three hits, three runs, two home runs and seven RBIs, the last of which matched the program record. It was also the first time that the typically slap-hitting Manos had two homers in a game in her career.
The Mastodons never trailed in their win over Indiana State. The 'Dons jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Grace Hollopeter doubled to score Tori Countryman. An inning later, the 'Dons put four on the board. Gwen McMenemy singled to bring McKenna Minton home, then Manos ripped a homer over the center field wall to score three more runs.
In the fourth, Manos singled to bring in Minton again, then Hollopeter had a sac fly to bring Manos home.
Indiana State scored once in the fifth to extend the game, but Manos decided that was enough. She had a three-run shot in the sixth to put the game out of reach for ISU. Hollopeter had an RBI double before the sixth was over for insurance purposes.
ISU put a pair of runs on the board in the sixth, but the Mastodons stranded two on the basepaths to end the game early.
Alanah Jones threw all six innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out four. She earned the victory and improved to 3-6. Cassi Newbanks took the loss for Indiana State.
ISU fell to 5-16.
GAME 2: Eastern Kentucky 11, Purdue Fort Wayne 1
The host Colonels took advantage of big hitting to halt the Mastodons early. EKU got three singles, two doubles and a home run to jump out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning. The Colonels added to their advantage with three more in the second.
Purdue Fort Wayne got eight hits from five different players, but only Minton scored. Countryman, Hollopeter and Minton each had two hits, with Hollopeter's double in the first inning being the only extra-base hit.
The Mastodons loaded the bases in the fifth with a chance to extend the game, but the Colonels managed three outs in a row without the 'Dons converting any into runs.
Gracie Brinkerhoff suffered the loss to fall to 0-1. Lauren Narvaez got the win for EKU.
The Mastodons moved to 4-12 with the split on Sunday. EKU improved to 17-5.
Purdue Fort Wayne will visit Ball State on Tuesday (March 11) for a 2 p.m. game.
