'Dons Face No. 12 McKendree in MIVA Quarterfinals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball program takes on the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association tournament. The seventh-seeded Mastodons will be squaring off against the second-seeded McKendree Bearcats in the MIVA quarterfinals on Saturday (April 19).

The Bearcats lost to all three ranked opponents during their non-conference schedule: Hawaii (twice), UC San Diego and Long Beach State. Senior Axel Melendez Watts received his first MIVA Offensive Player of the Year selection of his career (April 1) after a four-set victory over Quincy. The senior led the MIVA in points per set during the week, averaging 4.88. The Puerto Rico native also contributed 4.00 kills per set, the league's third-most on the week, on a .355 hitting percentage.
He Can Do It
JP Candrian earned his first MIVA Player of the Week award, earning Defensive Player of the Week (Jan. 28). Candrian led the Mastodons to a 2-0 week, beating both LIU (Jan. 23) and Lees-McRae (Jan. 25) on the Arnie Ball Court. The freshman averaged 2.67 digs during the stretch, collecting 16 in the five-set victory over LIU. The Florida native added 0.67 blocks per set to his weekly totals.
Last Time Out
The Mastodons traveled to No. 12 McKendree, dropping a pair of matches during their visit (April 11 and 12).
Coming Up
