‘Dons Top YSU on Saturday

Friday's suspended game – Youngstown State 13, Mastodons 6
Friday's game featured two rain delays and was ultimately suspended with one out in the top of the eighth inning and the 'Dons down 8-6. YSU pushed their lead to 13-6 on Saturday when play resumed.
Zane Danielson got the loss for the 'Dons with three innings in relief. Braden Gebhardt earned the win for YSU and Mikey Rodriques picked up the save. Rodriques threw the final two innings in the contest for the Penguins.
YSU took the lead back with four runs in the fifth inning to go up 7-4. They never trailed after that point.
Camden Karczewski had three hits in the contest for the 'Dons.
Saturday's scheduled game – Mastodons 14, Youngstown State 4 (7 innings)
Purdue Fort Wayne took the second game by run-rule in seven innings 14-4. The 'Dons recorded 12 hits and worked nine walks. Kevin Hall had three hits including a home run in the second inning. He scored three times. Jackson Micheels also scored three times, thanks to a hit and two walks. Owen Willard recorded three hits and scored twice.
A four-run second inning was answered by YSU as the Penguins tied it up with four of their own in the third. It was the only inning the Penguins pushed a run home. Dillon Fischer went 6.0 innings to get the win. He had eight strikeouts in the winning effort. Cole Newell tossed a scoreless seventh to give the 'Dons the run-rule victory.
The 'Dons took the lead for good in the third with a six-run inning. Purdue Fort Wayne worked four walks, three hits and one hit by pitch in the inning. Grant Sawa, Justin Osterhouse and Karczewski each drove in runs with two outs.
JJ Tylicki got the loss for YSU, going 2.0 innings.
Youngstown State is now 11-31 (8-12 Horizon League). Purdue Fort Wayne is 8-33 (6-13 Horizon League). The two teams will play the rubber game of the three game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Mastodon Field.
