Ali Sparks Wins Shot Put at #HLTF Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field program added 22 points to their team total during day two of the Horizon League Outdoor Championships, boosted by Ali Sparks' 10 points following her shot put victory.
Sparks continued to add to her decorated collegiate throws resume with her fifth championship event win, this time being named shot put champion. Her 14.52 meter toss beat out all league competition in the Mastodon's lone win of the day.
Two 'Dons earned podium visits in the long jump. Senior Louiza Kruiswijk cleared 5.64 meters for fifth place and four points. Kaylee Rogaczewski also added a point for the Mastodons after an eighth place finish and a 5.40 meter mark.
Ellie Zagel (4709) and Amelie Mach (4554) both set personal records in the heptathlon. Zagel finished in sixth for 3 points. Mach set personal records in both javelin (23.15 meters) and 800 meters (2:29.34) on her way to seventh and two Mastodon points.
Haylee Hile tallied two Purdue Fort Wayne points after finishing seventh in the 3000 meter steeplechase, clocking 11:16.39. Amanda Williams ran a personal record time in the event, placing 19th in 12:31.79.
Bella Hodges notched the quickest time in the 800 meters preliminary rounds, setting the time to beat at a personal-record 2:12.88.
Three Mastodons locked in three spots in the 400 meter hurdles finals after the preliminary rounds in day two. Marissa Van De Weg led the 'Dons, winning the third heat with a time of 1:02.10. Ella Jenkins' time of 1:03.36 earned her seventh. Mach placed second in the second heat, finishing in 1:04.25.
The 'Dons advanced two runners to tomorrow's 100 hurdles final round. Jordan Yanders punched her ticket after winning the third heat with a 13.95 finish. Ella Jenkins ran a personal-record 14.19, which was good for second in the third heat. Jaliyah Page finished the event with a personal-record time of 14.27.
Aniya Young won the fourth heat of the 100 meter dash with a personal record time of 11.95. Harmony Johnson finished in 12.02, which won the second heat of the event.
Freshman Sanayah Ruffin and Lillian Hurd earned spots in the 400 meter dash finals. Ruffin qualified with a personal-record time of 56.53. Hurd finished second in the second heat of the event, crossing the line in 56.58.
Young also qualified in the 200 meter dash after a personal record of time 24.74 that won the fourth heat in prelims.
Purdue Fort Wayne has 42 points after the second day of the Horizon League Outdoor Championships, sitting in third. Youngstown State has a firm grasp on first with 101.5 points and Milwaukee is in second with 56.
