FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne softball fell to Green Bay 2-0 on Friday (May 2) in the first of a three-game Horizon League slate.
Green Bay scored the go-ahead run in the fourth with an RBI double from Brooke Schwall. The Phoenix got an insurance run in the seventh on a solo shot from Schwall that cleared the center field fence.
The Mastodons got three hits in the contest, coming from Grace Hollopeter, Kennedy Peckinpaugh and Brooke Lickey. Tori Countryman drew a walk and stole second in the third inning. Peckinpaugh was 60 feet away from home in the second after working around to third on a bunt single from Lickey.
Alanah Jones (12-15) got the ball to start for Purdue Fort Wayne and suffered the loss. She had five strikeouts. Genesis Eggart threw all seven innings for the Phoenix and picked up the win after nine K's.
Purdue Fort Wayne fell to 17-23 and 13-9 in the Horizon League. Green Bay improved to 16-29, 9-13 in league. These two teams will meet again tomorrow (Saturday, May 3) at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader. It will be Senior Day for Gracie Brinkerhoff and manager Dymond Barbre.
