Trent Murphy earned All-Freshman Team honors.
Smart 'Dons:
- On May 14, Justin Osterhouse and Brooks Sailors were named to the 2025 Valeo Horizon League Baseball All-Academic Team. Dylan Chargo was selected as honorable mention. The team honors student-athletes for their work on the field and in the classroom.
About Osterhouse's Historic Day:
- On May 15 vs. Wright State, Justin Osterhouse hit four home runs, including a walk-off grand slam, while also getting the win thanks to an inning on the mound. It might be the first time a player has ever accomplished all three feats in the same game. The game earned coverage on MLB's social media accounts and various other media outlets. He earned both Horizon League Batter and Pitcher of the Week honors the entire week's performance which saw him slug 1.929 with five home runs, 10 runs and 10 hits. His week was the best offensive showing that week in the nation according to DI Baseball.
'Dons & Ends:
- Kevin Hall finished the season with no errors, 125 putouts and four assists as the Mastodons' everyday center fielder.
- Four Mastodons have double-digit multi-hit games. Camden Karczewski (16), Justin Osterhouse (15), Kevin Hall (15) and Jackson Micheels (14).
- Brooks Sailors has 44 walks on the season. He ranks third in the Horizon League and the total is second for a single-season in program history. The record for single-season walks is held by Malcolm White who had 54 walks in 2012.
- Dillon Fischer is 1st in the league in innings pitched (83.1). The total is tied for ninth in program history for innings tossed in a single season.
- Freshman Aidan Pearson has allowed one or zero earned runs in 14 of his appearances this season.
- Freshman Trent Murphy has allowed one or zero earned runs in 14 of his appearances this season. He tossed 3.2 innings of one-hit, shutout ball at Wright State on April 13. He has gone 3.0 innings or longer six times.
- Cole Newell has allowed more than two earned runs in an appearance once this season. He tossed three innings of one-run ball to get the win at Michigan State (April 22). He had four shutout innings with a win at Oakland (May 3).
- Justin Osterhouse's 16 home runs is 2nd in NCAA Division I program history for home runs in a season. Shaun VanDriessche (2010) owns the single-season record at 18.
- Freshman Tyson Greenwood has walked only 14 batters in 39.0 innings pitched. He hasn't walked more than two batters in any of his 15 appearances this season.
The Road Ends at 39: Brooks Sailors saw his on-base streak halted at 39 games on May 4 when he failed to reach base at Oakland. His 39-game streak set a new school record, snapping the 37 games Cade Nelis (2023) and Jackson Boyce (2017) recorded.
A few notes on the streak:
- The streak started on Feb. 23, the opening game at Austin Peay.
- Sailors recorded multiple walks in eight of the 39 games. This includes three consecutive games with three walks at Youngstown State (March 21 and March 23).
- He had multiple hits in seven games in the streak, including four hits vs. Youngstown State (April 27).
- He was hit by pitch only twice in the streak, but neither were the only reason his streak continued.
POTW: Purdue Fort Wayne earned both Horizon League weekly honors on April 1. Justin Osterhouse was the Batter of the Week. He had two home runs and got on base 10 times. Zane Danielson had nine strikeouts and allowed one unearned run in 6.0 innings vs. Oakland to get the Pitcher of the Week honor.
POTW Again: On May 5, Cole Newell was named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week after getting the win with 4.0 shutout innings in relief at Oakland.
Ya Gotta Give The Player Back: On May 4 at Oakland, Justin Osterhouse made a catch to remember. With two outs he roamed from his position at third base to chase a pop foul seemingly heading out of play. Approaching a four-foot chain link fence he extended his left arm over the wall to catch the foul ball and end the inning. In doing so he flipped head-over-heels over the fence, falling on the rocks on the other side of the fence. No worries for Osterhouse though, he popped up off the ground to leadoff the next inning with a double.
Fischer Honor: Dillon Fischer was picked as a top 100 pitcher from the fourth weekend of the season by DI Baseball. Fischer allowed no runs in 6.1 innings at Tennessee Tech.
Karczewski Honor: Camden Karczewski was named a top 100 performer by DI Baseball for his four hits (home run, two doubles and a single) against Northern Kentucky.
Nice to Meet You: This season isn't the first time Kevin Hall and Nick Hockemeyer are teammates. They spent the summer of 2024 playing for the Elizabethton River Riders of the Appalachian League. Hall had a .453 OBP in 26 games for the River Riders. Hockemeyer hit .296 in 18 games.
Blood Lines: Mastodon head coach Doug Schreiber coached Trent Murphy's father, Ron, when Schreiber was an assistant at Ball State.
