Pitching Powers Mastodons to Win Over Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Solid pitching lifted the Purdue Fort Wayne baseball team to a 5-2 win at Oakland on Saturday (May 3) in Horizon League action.
Tyson Greenwood started and allowed two runs in 2.2 innings. Cole Newell came in and was lights out for the 'Dons. He tossed four shutout innings to get the victory. Carson Caudill was just as good. The senior from Lexington, Kentucky didn't allow a run in 2.1 innings. He earned the save.
Kevin Hall put the 'Dons up for good with an RBI single in the third. It was the second run of the inning for Purdue Fort Wayne and made it a 3-1 game. Hall, Camden Karczewski, Justin Osterhouse and Brooks Sailors each had two hits in the game. Brooks Sailors extended his school-record on-base streak to 39 games in the contest. Osterhouse also had a walk to reach base three times.
The Mastodons added a single run in the fifth and another in the eighth to go ahead by the final score 5-2.
Oakland falls to 14-34 (7-16 Horizon League). The 'Dons improve to 9-35 (7-15 Horizon League). The rubber game of the three-game series is set for Sunday.
