Mastodons Top Oakland in 12 Innings

Osterhouse's impressive day was highlighted by a catch to close the bottom of the third inning. With two outs he roamed from his position at third base to chase a pop foul seemingly heading out of play. Approaching a four-foot chain link fence he extended his left arm over the wall to catch the foul ball and end the inning. In doing so he flipped head-over-heels over the fence, falling on the rocks on the other side of the fence. No worries for Osterhouse though, he popped up off the ground to leadoff the next inning with a double.
The 'Dons were trailing 5-0 entering the sixth when Osterhouse started a five-run inning with a two-out double. He came around on a single by Sage Adams. Kevin Hall knocked in Camden Karczewski with a single. Grant Sawa walked before Adams and Hall scored on a two-RBI double by Jackson Micheels to make it a 5-4 game. Sawa came home on a wild pitch to tie the game at five.
It stayed 5-5 all the way to the 12th thanks to the Mastodon bullpen. Aidan Pearson tossed four scoreless innings with no walks, two hits and three strikeouts. Trent Murphy got the win after allowing just one unearned run in the 12th, going three innings.
Osterhouse knocked in Owen Willard in the 12th with a two-out single. Osterhouse came around to make it 7-5 on a double by Colton Shirley, aided by slippery conditions in the natural grass outfield. The game was moved up three hours to avoid the rain, but extra innings caused the final innings to be played in the rain.
Adams had two hits in the game. Sawa walked twice. Brooks Sailors failed to reach base in his six at-bats, halting his school-record on-base streak at 39 games.
Murphy is now 2-3 with the win. Ethan Glassman is 2-5 after taking the loss for Oakland. Aidan Schuck and John Lauinger had three hits for Oakland.
The 'Dons are now 2-1 in extra innings this season. At 12 innings, this was the longest game of the season for Purdue Fort Wayne.
The Golden Grizzlies fall to 14-35 (7-16 Horizon League). The Mastodons improve to 10-35 (8-15 Horizon League). The 'Dons are at Milwaukee starting Friday.
