FRANKLIN, Wis. – Two runs ended up being the difference in Purdue Fort Wayne's 2-0 loss at Milwaukee on Friday (May 9) afternoon in Horizon League play.
While Dillon Fischer got the loss (1-7), he was very effective on Friday. He went all eight innings, allowing two runs on six hits with three walks while fanning seven Panthers.
The big hit in the game came off the bad of Caden Headlee. He hit a two-run home run in the second and it would be all the scoring in the game.
The best chances for the Mastodons came in the fifth and eighth innings. Purdue Fort Wayne loaded the bases with one out in the fifth before a 1-2-3 double play ended the threat. In the eighth, back-to-back two-out walks put runners on before a ground out halted the threat.
Gavin Theis went eight innings for Milwaukee. He is 8-1. Riley Peterson tossed the final three outs for the save.
Osterhouse reached twice in the game with a walk and a hit. Kevin Hall had two singles.
Milwaukee improves to 18-31 (13-11 Horizon League). Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 10-36 (8-16 Horizon League).
The two teams will play the middle game of the series on Saturday (May 10) at noon ET.
