Track & Field Takes Down Two #HLTF Records at Indoor Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field program took third at the 2026 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday (March 1), boosted by event wins from Lillian Hurd, Harmony Johnson and the 4x400 meter relay team.
Following the meet, Lillian Hurd was named Women's Championship Outstanding Performer - Running Events by the Horizon League. Hurd began her work for the day in the 400 meter dash, breaking both the Horizon League and Purdue Fort Wayne record in the event. The sophomore's time of 54.50 defended her title of Horizon League Indoor 400 meter dash champion. Hurd returned to the track for the 200 meter dash, this time taking runner-up. The Ohio native finished in a time of 24.43. She also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 meter relay that broke the league and school record, winning the event.
The Mastodons finished with 107 points at the meet. Youngstown State won the meet with 165 points and Milwaukee earned runner-up with 123.
The 4x400 meter relay squad of Sanayah Ruffin, Amelie Mach, Lena James and Hurd also broke the league record to finish the meet. Their time of 3:43.90 beat out all league opponents and secured 10 points to the Purdue Fort Wayne total.
Johnson won the 60 meter dash championship, tying the Mastodon school record of 7.57. Aniya Young finished in seventh in the event, securing two points with a time of 7.69.
Bella Hodges ran a school record 800 meters, finishing with a time of 2:12.51. The senior's finish was runner-up in the event and added eight points.
Three 'Dons took the podium in the shot put, earning a total of 14 points. Ali Sparks led the group with a throw of 14.13 meters, good for third. Ellie Zagel had a personal record mark of 13.95 meters score her fourth. Emery Carrico took sixth with a 13.35 meter distance. McKayla Henry threw a personal record 12.61 meters in the event.
The distance duo of Riley Tate and Ava Genovese put up 11 points in the mile. Tate took third, running a personal record 4:53.81 and Genovese finished fourth with a time of 4:56.78, also a PR. Faith Norris ran a personal record time of 5:11.34 in the event.
Tate also took the podium in the 3000 meters, earning fifth with a 9:52.07. Haylee Hile (10:10.81) and Nori Silva (10:55.12) ran personal record times in the event.
James ran the 200 meter dash and finished in fifth with a personal record time of 24.78.
Mach was the lone Mastodon to appear in the 60 meter hurdles final, running a 8.85 for seventh.
Scout Warner earned the 'Dons points in the high jump, clearing 1.62 meters on the day.
Ruffin earned the 'Dons a point with her eighth place finish (56.72) in the 400 meter dash.
