
Waltke's 81 Leads IPFW at First Day of League Championships

MACOMB, Ill. - IPFW women's golf team is currently in 10th place at the Summit League Championships hosted by Western Illinois University at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course in Macomb, Illinois.
The Mastodon's team score of 349 is six strokes behind ninth place UMKC and seven from Southern Utah. Oral Roberts is the first-round leader with a score of 302, with South Dakota State and Centenary each 23 strokes behind with a 325. Oakland (327), Western Illinois (331), IUPUI (333) and North Dakota State (339) round out the teams in the ten-team league.
Pacing the `Dons in the first day was Abbey Waltke, who carded a nine-over par 81 to put her in a tie of 12th place. Nicolle Geyer shot a 14-over 86, placing her in a tie of 30th, with Jillian Speece carded a 90, putting her in a tie of 44th place. Alison Rathsman was the final scoring IPFW golfer, shooting a 92, placing her 46th, as teammate Nikki LeRose rounded out the varsity squad with a 94, going into the second round in 48th place.
The squad takes back to the course tomorrow to compete in the second of three rounds to decide an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships.
