
Mastodons Close Gap at Summit League Championships

MACOMB, Ill. - The IPFW women's golf team carded a second-round 365 and is now just two strokes out of ninth place at the 2008 Summit League Championships, hosted by Western Illinois University.
The Mastodon's second-round score of 365 gave IPFW a two-round total of 714. Southern Utah carded a 370 in the second round, with the `Dons sitting just two strokes behind the Thunderbirds overall. Oral Roberts continues to lead the field with a two-round score of 614, with South Dakota State (646), Oakland (666), North Dakota State (669), Western Illinois (673), Centenary (676), IUPUI (682) and UMKC (700) rounding out the teams in the field.
Jillian Speece and Alison Rathsman each shot a second-round 88 to lead the `Dons, with Nikki LeRose carding a 94. Abbey Waltke was the final scoring member of the team with a 95, while Nicolle Geyer was just one stroke behind with a 96.
After two rounds, Waltke remains the team leader with a two-round total of 176, with Speece, Rathsman and Geyer ending the day with scores of 178, 180 and 182, respectively. LeRose, the third `Don this afternoon, has a two-day total of 188 heading into the final day of competition.
The squad takes to the course for the third and final day of competition, with an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships on the line for the winner.
