SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
IPFW enters Saturday's matchup with the Bearcats with a record of 1-1 after a heartbreaking, 76-66 overtime loss at Xavier on Tuesday night. The Mastodons had a chance to pull the upset in the final seconds, but a Ben Botts 3-pointer bounced off the rim at the buzzer allowing Xavier to win in the OT session. Senior guard Zach Plackemeier continues to lead the 'Dons in scoring at 14.5 points per game.
WHAT 2 WATCH 4
IPFW's play against Xavier should give them a boost as they take on Cincinnati for the first time. In just their 10th season of Division I play, IPFW is still searching for their first win over a school from a power conference. The Mastodons are 0-8 lifetime vs. teams from the BIG EAST.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Cincinnati enters today's game with a record of 1-0 after topping Mount Saint Mary's, 69-59 in their season opener on Monday night at Fifth Third Arena. Freshman guard Sean Kilpatrick dropped a game-high 21 points on the Mountaineers in his debut in red and black. The Bearcats are a tough out at home with a record of 280-60 (82.3%) at Fifth Third Arena.
WHAT 2 WATCH 4
Mick Cronin's team will have to find a new leading scorer now that Deonta Vaughn has used up his eligibility at UC. Vaughn finished his career as the Bearcats' third all-time leading scorer (1,885 points). He was a two-time All-BIG EAST selection. Cincinnati also lost BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Lance Stephenson to the NBA Draft (40th overall to the Indiana Pacers).
