Las Vegas, NV - In the first two conference matches of the season, the IPFW women's tennis team defeated the Centenary Ladies, 7-0, and the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, 5-2, on day one of the Summit League cluster in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 'Dons move to 18-3 overall (2-0 SL) this season in dual matches, while the Ladies are now 0-5 overall (0-1 SL) and the Thunderbirds dropped to 3-2 overall (0-1 SL).

Against CC, IPFW claimed both of the doubles positions with wins at the No. 2 spot, 8-0, and No. 1 spot, 8-1, respectively.

In singles play, the Mastodons swept the Ladies in all five matches, which included the 'Dons having four shutout victories, 6-0, 6-0, at Nos. 3, 4, 2 and 5, respectively. At the No. 1 spot, senior Amy Recht defeated CC's Isadora Bickham, 6-3, 6-3.

IPFW also claimed the doubles point against SUU after going 3-0 in doubles play. The biggest win for the 'Dons came at the No. 1 position when the duo of senior Ingrid Ballus and Recht won 8-1.

The Mastodons edged past the Thunderbirds in singles play when they claimed four victories, including two big wins in three sets. Recht rallied to a win over SUU's Ksusha Nazarova, 7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-2, while Ballus won in a 10 point super tie-breaker against Alex Ivanova, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (5).

Sophomore Mastodon Caterina Kiefer improved her win streak to 18 after her two wins in singles against CC, 6-0,6-0, and SUU, 6-1, 6-4.

The Mastodons will return to action tomorrow on day two of the conference cluster when they face UMKC at 12:00 p.m. (EST).
