Evansville, IN - The Evansville Purple Aces scored three runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings, running away with the series opener against the Mastodons of IPFW on Friday evening by an 11-0 final score.
IPFW was held to just six hits over the nine innings, including two from Brendan Landwehr, as the catcher was 2-for-3 at the plate.
Evansville got the scoring started in the second inning with a pair of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly, before Jared Baehl drove in two with a triple in the third inning, pushing the hosts to a 5-0 lead.
Two more RBI singles and another sacrifice fly in the fourth inning took the Purple Ace lead to 8-0, and the final margin came from the fifth inning when Evansville scored on a wild pitch, and two more RBI singles, giving the game its 11-0 final score.
Ryan Oesterle was 4-for-5 in the win, as nine Evansville players recorded hits. Kyle Lloyd picked up the win for the hosts, going seven innings, striking out five and scattering four hits. IPFW's Nick Opitz pitched seven innings for the Mastodons, striking out five and allowing nine earned runs.
The teams meet up on Saturday at 3:00 PM EST in Evansville for the middle game of a three-game series.
