Bloomington, IN - Looking to improve marks heading into the Summit League Championships, a trio of Mastodons competed at the Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana University.
Sara Branam, competing in her hometown, finished with the second-longest hammer throw in program history, behind only her own school record with a toss of 168-feet (51.20 meters). Currently six of the seven longest tosses in school history came from Branam this season, as the senior holds each of the top-10 longest marks in the event.
Courtney Bowen placed 11th in the discus with a toss of 145-feet (44.21 meters), which is the fifth longest throw in program history, and three inches further than the school record heading into the season, which has since been broken by Bowen, as the junior holds all ten of the top-10 marks in program history, with six of the top seven coming this year.
Running in her first 1,500-meter race of her career, Kim Matusik placed 13th in the event with a time of 5:00.08.
The Mastodons return to action next weekend when the squad travels to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to compete in the 2011 Summit League Championships, hosted by South Dakota State University.
